The Humdoo Mission

At Humdoo, we believe that you should leave everyone and everything better than you found it. If by coming into our store and enjoying our ice cream makes your day even the tiniest bit better, then we've done our job. We're in the business of creating memories and having a good time, we just use ice cream to make it happen.

How My Dreams Came True

In 2019, I was a normal college student. Taking classes, pursuing a degree in elementary education, and working at Starbucks part-time. I loved the idea of being a teacher. Being a positive role model for the next generation was important to me, but I felt like something was missing. I wanted personal freedom in my life and to have something special I could call mine. One day when I was driving with my parents, we passed a food truck and my Mom had told me that I should start an ice cream truck. This idea came from my dream of owning a small ice cream shop in the summers to keep me busy when I wasn't teaching. I'm sure she didn't realize it at the time, but that comment had given me permission to chase my dream.

I waited a couple more weeks before breaking the news to them on my 20th birthday about getting into the ice cream business. They told me to start by making a business plan and to go from there, so I hit the ground running. I wrote down every idea I could think of for my business and started building my master plan in a small notebook. The next step was to bring my dream to life, but at every turn I was denied and doubted. Despite my best efforts, I was the only one who could see my dream. I was a mess, it felt like my attempt at owning a business would be over before it started. I thought it was over, until an ice cream truck on Craig's List saved the day. I raced out to New York the next day and bought the truck and I felt like my luck was starting to change.

I had my grand opening on June 8th of 2019 at my local cul-de-sac and from then on I attended every event and booked the truck as much as I could to get my name out there. By the end of the summer, I had learned more about myself and what I wanted from life than college could have ever taught me. I was determined to absolutely kill my second summer and I started booking in January of 2020. By the end of March the world shut down and I felt my world collapse beneath me. I hadn't even been in business for a year and it looked like I was about to lose it all. I gave myself 2 days to be sad and then on 3rd day I took action and made a plan to save my business, by delivering pints. I thought it would be steady but that I'd still take a huge hit like everyone, maybe deliver 50-100 pints per week. I was wrong.. The video I made promoting the pint delivery went viral and we were delivering 2000 pints a week to pretty much anywhere within a 30 mile radius of Whitehouse Station. I ended up needing to hire people and building a team of 4 drivers to help me deliver all the pints. I did more in sales during the first month of the shutdown i did my entire first year in business. I couldn't believe my dream was still alive.

When the world opened up again I started booking small parties and bringing the truck to local restaurants and it became a tradition. We would always have a line and it was my favorite day of the week. One day on a break, I came across a run down building on the street where I parked my truck. I knew immediately that it was going to be my ice cream shop and everyone thought I had lost my mind. No one could see what I had in store for this little building. The store opened on June 26th, 2021 and since that day I've poured everything I had into the store and it is by far the thing I am most proud of in life.

We created a place in the community where people can gather and unwind. It became the place where parents bring their kids in when they get A's on their report cards, where college kids come to visit when they're home on break, where couples go on first dates, where people celebrate their birthdays and anniversaries and promotions, where people come on bad days because they know good vibes are pouring out of those pink walls and where everyone feels welcomed. Every once in awhile, I drive by the store at night, just to see everyone sitting outside under the pink lanterns and bulb lights and it makes me feel like I did something good and that's the best feeling in the whole world.
